Need to Know

This page contains essential information for participants, including requirements, logistics, health and safety guidance, and conservation considerations.

Our bird and Wildlife programmes started in 2024 with running bird watching tours in the Seti Khola Valley, in central northern Nepal.  Parts of the bird and wildlife tours are not on any other tour operator itineraries, but included because the World Pheasant Association www.pheasant.org.uk works with the local community there, and has done so for the last 45 years.  The Veterinary CPD programme has developed in 2025 as a result of the relationships built over the years through work in the field.  All proceeds other than the costs of running tours go to BIOCOS Nepal (Biodiversity Conservation Society Nepal) www.biocosnepal.org.np. This supports the community conservation education programme, and goes to assist the anti-poaching programme removing snares and releasing trapped birds.

The World Pheasant Association works alongside BIOCOS Nepal and has a MOU to facilitate conservation work in the local community.  Neither charity are tour operators, so we collaborate in Nepal with tour operator Namaste Manang who are responsible for your itinerary.

Background

Our Bird and Wildlife programmes started in 2024 with running bird watching tours in the Seti Khola Valley, in central northern Nepal.  Parts of the bird and wildlife tours are not on any other tour operator itineraries, but included because the World Pheasant Association www.pheasant.org.uk works with the local community there, and has done so for the last 45 years.  Since BIOCOS NEPAL was founded in 2008 the two conservation organisations have worked together and these tours have been developed as a result of the relationships built over the years through work in the field.

WPA and BIOCOS NEPAL have an MOU to facilitate conservation work in the local community.  Neither charity is a tour operator, so we collaborate in Nepal with our travel and hospitality partner Namaste Manang Tours & Trekking Pvt. Ltd. who are responsible for your itinerary.  They run our three tours at cost and all proceeds (other than the costs of running the tours) go to BIOCOS NEPAL (Biodiversity Conservation Society Nepal). www.biocosnepal.org   This supports the community conservation education programme, and goes to assist the anti-poaching programme removing snares and releasing trapped birds.

What do I need to arrange?

You will need full travel insurance, including repatriation medical cover. Please send a copy of the policy number with company details when you make your final full payment.  This is mandatory.

You will need a visa for Nepal. The process starts online through the Embassy of Nepal https://uk.nepalembassy.gov.np/visa/ followed by visiting a Nepalese embassy with your passport to collect and pay for the visa - it is a quick process. Multiple visas can be collected by one person. It is possible to get a visa upon arrival in Kathmandu, but this is NOT recommended as it will add at least another 3 hours to your time in the airport.

You may need inoculations if you have not travelled to Nepal before. Please consult your doctor.
