Passionate about wildlife conservation in Nepal.
Our Bird and Wildlife programmes started in 2024, bringing together specialist wildlife experiences, local expertise and conservation-focused travel. Parts of the bird and wildlife tours are not on any other tour operator itineraries, but included because the World Pheasant Association www.pheasant.org.uk works with the local community there, and has done so for the last 45 years. Since BIOCOS NEPAL was founded in 2002 the two conservation organisations have worked together and these tours have been developed as a result of the relationships built over the years through work in the field.
Meet the Team
Rosey Northcote-Smith
Rosey has been involved in bird conservation for over 45 years and brings a wealth of knowledge from a career spanning electronics engineering, horticulture, animal husbandry, and conservation. As the key contact for guests before departure, Rosey is on hand to answer questions and help everyone prepare for their journey. She also accompanies each Nepal tour from start to finish, sharing her extensive local knowledge and practical travel advice to help guests get the most from their experience.
Susie Walker-Munro
Susie is a founder of the tour operation and a conservation consultant with lifelong links to the World Pheasant Association. Raised in a family deeply involved in pheasant conservation, she has spent much of her career supporting projects to protect threatened gamebirds around the world. Based in Scotland, she helps shape the conservation focus of the tours and champions wildlife conservation initiatives in Nepal and beyond.
Dr. Paras Bikram Singh
Dr. Paras Bikram Singh is Director of BIOCOS Nepal. His career has included six years as a Conservation Officer in the Annapurna Conservation Area where he conducted extensive research on Himalayan Musk Deer, Red Pandas and Snow Leopards. His work has focused on carnivores and mountain ungulates along with the long-term conservation of the Himalayan Pheasants. With his postdoctoral training in Ecology he brings an innovative approach that integrates science with community-based stewardship, including youth engagement, conservation-themed sports and collaboration with public figures to enhance awareness of conservation. He has also authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications and these contributions have strengthened local capacity, improved understanding of mountain ecosystems and promoted co-existence between wildlife and people in some of Nepal's most fragile landscapes.

BIOCOS Nepal The Biodiversity Conservation Society Nepal
BIOCOS Nepal was founded by young conservationists in 2002 and formally registered with the District Administration Office, Lalitpur, in 2008. It was subsequently registered as a company not distributing profits (Registration No. 370992), authorised to operate throughout Nepal, and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (Affiliation No. 58402).
BIOCOS Nepal is a science-led, community-based conservation organisation dedicated to protecting threatened wildlife and their habitats. Its programmes combine ecological research, long-term wildlife monitoring, community stewardship, conservation education and practical action.

The organisation currently works to conserve snow leopards, musk deer, red pandas, tigers, vultures and Himalayan pheasants across several protected areas and important conservation landscapes in Nepal.
The World Pheasant Association (WPA)
The World Pheasant Association (WPA) is a UK-registered charity (no. 1181022), founded in 1975 to promote the conservation of galliformes worldwide through research, conservation breeding, education, and in-situ projects. Its work is guided by specialist committees, including the Conservation Breeding and Advisory Group, which manages backup populations and studbooks to protect genetic diversity, the European Conservation Breeding Group, which coordinates European efforts, and the Scientific Advisory Committee, which advises on projects and tracks scientific and technical advances. Every 3–4 years, WPA hosts an International Galliformes Symposium, with the 9th scheduled for Pokhara, Nepal, in 2027.
